Scoring Big for Hartford

Scoring Big for Hartford

MJC is excited to be part of Hartford Sports Group’s effort to bring professional soccer to Hartford. Funding has been secured to renovate Dillion Stadium as the home field for a United Soccer League franchise. If all goes as planned, play could begin next season. The redevelopment of Dillon Stadium, along with improvements to Colt Park, will only add to the emergence of Coltsville as one of the most dynamic mixed-used neighborhoods in the city.

The Connecticut Port Authority, an MJC client, is leading an effort to redevelop State Pier in New London. The state of Connecticut has set aside $15 million to help pay for the project. According to experts in the field the timing is perfect. A number of wind energy projects are being planned for the waters off the northeast and New London is perfectly situated to service them. A request for proposals for a developer and operator of State Pier went public in early June. Bids are due in August.

MJC’s Duby McDowell was a visiting lecturer at the University of Hartford’s Presidents’ College in February.

Her talk was titled “The #MeToo Movement: Where Have You Been All My Life?” and focused on sexual harassment and how the topic has exploded in the American consciousness. She spoke about experiencing both “the bad old days” and the advent of a new era, and this generated a lively question and answer session on where this upheaval leaves us and the many open questions about navigating the modern American workplace.

Connecticut, the opioid crisis, and moving forward: MJC's Dean Pagani making news

The opioid crisis is rampant. According to the state's medical examiner,  "917 people in Connecticut died of accidental drug overdoses" in 2016. This, "compared to 87 homicides, 387 suicides and 319 motor vehicle accidents," is a harsh and disturbing reality check for this worsening epidemic. Dean Pagani, VP at McDowell Jewett Communications, lends insight in today's Hartford Courant about companies moving forward amid this devastating crisis.

MJC's Social Media Director Caught on Camera

It comes as no surprise that social media plays a big role when it comes to reaching voters, especially in an election year. Recently, Sarah Miner sat down with NBC Connecticut's, Jamie Ratliff, to talk about how social media is playing a vital role for candidates in their campaign strategies.

CCADV Launches New Campaign

With the help of McDowell Jewett Communications, the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence recently launched the "I Choose" campaign. The campaign name stems from the idea that violence is a choice - and with the right mentors and the right tools, boys can choose to rise above domestic violence. Together, we are working towards educating boys about making good life choices: “I Choose respect;” “I Choose not to normalize violence towards women;” “I Choose to take a stand against domestic violence.”
