Debate Season

Pending further developments, it appears we have seen the last debate of this year’s presidential campaign season. It happened the evening of October 1, in New York City and featured vice presidential candidates J.D. Vance(R) and Tim Walz(D).

In the immediate aftermath of the debate Democratic operatives appearing on television analysis shows expressed disappointment in Walz, feeling he should have done more to take on what they hear as bald faced lies from Vance and the Republican ticket. As the dust settles however the Walz strategy may have worked better than is immediately obvious. At the very least, the softer approach ensured the vice presidential debate would not have any negative effect on the trajectory of the race which seems to be trending in favor of Kamala Harris as of this writing.

For those who can’t get enough candidate debates, two important meetings are taking place this month.

WTNH is hosting a debate between Senator Chris Murphy(D) and Matthew Corey(R). It will air October 30 at 7p.m.

WFSB and CT Insider are hosting a Fifth Congressional District debate between incumbent Jahana Hayes(D) and George Logan(R) October 9 at 7p.m. The race in the fifth could be the closest in Connecticut this year and could have an impact on the balance of power in the House of Representatives.
