The Show Will Go On

Mark May 19th on your calendar: that’s when all remaining Covid restrictions will be lifted for performing arts venues. It’s also a good time to consider becoming a member of The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

After a slog of a year, Connecticut is at the point where you can enjoy a live show indoors like the good old days. Capacity restrictions will be eliminated and masks will only be required when social distancing is not possible.

This is great news for you because our friends at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (The Kate) have several enthralling acts lined up to close out May.

The Wunderkammer (also known as "cabinets of curiosities") emerged among sovereigns and elite collectors in the 16th century, and these extraordinary rooms are found all over the world. The documentary event film allows viewers a never-before-seen look into these secret places filled with eccentric and priceless oddities in private collections to reveal the wonder that lies inside them.

This dynamic show features music tied together by the bloodlines of legends: Michael Allman, eldest son of Rock Hall of Famer Gregg Allman, whose distinctly original songwriting and playing style mixes rock, roots, and the blues; Tyrone Vaughan, nephew of Stevie Ray Vaughan, who delivers spine tingling renditions of his uncle’s best-known songs such as “Pride and Joy!” and “Little Sister!”; and Hall of Famer Jeff Pitchell, whose soulful sound and songwriting have won national and international awards for him and his band Texas Flood.

Two of opera's greatest artists star in back-to-back recitals from the Metropolitan Opera’s Met Stars Live in Concert series. Beloved American diva Renée Fleming performs an intimate concert from the historic Dumbarton Oaks estate in Washington, D.C., recorded live in August 2020, and superstar tenor Jonas Kaufmann gives a thrilling recital of popular arias from the Polling Abbey in Bavaria, recorded live in July 2020.
