Newtown Action Alliance Travels to D.C. to Fight for Universal Background Checks Legislation

DMC was proud to assist the Newtown Action Alliance and its efforts in Washington, D.C. to advocate for universal background checks legislation.

The grassroots organization is dedicated to reversing the escalating gun violence epidemic through the introduction of smarter, safer gun laws and cultural change. Along with Alliance members, national supporters from across the U.S. journeyed to D.C. for the nine month anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.

Newtown Action Alliance members visited each congressional office building in D.C. and hand-delivered letters to members of Congress that called for background check legislation and included a list of 8,000 who have died from gun violence in the U.S. since the December 2012 Newtown tragedy.

The group held a press conference on Wednesday, September 18 in the Capitol Building where family members of gun violence victims and key congressional leaders addressed the current state of gun violence in the U.S. and demand action on universal background checks.
