Gov. Ned Lamont has a message for Connecticut: while we’re in a better place than a year ago, the pandemic isn’t over and vaccination remains the best way to fight Covid.
This sentiment is captured in a series of public service announcements which launched on statewide television last week and can also be seen on streaming services and online.
In Connecticut, 74% (2,648,224 people) of the state has received at least one vaccine dose. And 66% (2,376,516 people) of Connecticut's population has been fully vaccinated.
This makes Connecticut the second most vaccinated state by percentage. Still, Connecticut has not reached what experts call “herd immunity” and many residents remain unprotected.
“We remain diligent with our communications in order to keep our state and communities as protected and as safe as possible,” says Dr. Deidre Gifford, Connecticut Department of Public Health Acting Commissioner. “The new campaign is hard-hitting and clearly depicts the difference between life with vaccination versus the risk to your life without.”
She stresses that the Covid vaccines are safe and extremely effective, even against the Delta variant.
“You are far more likely to suffer severe disease, hospitalization, or death if you are not vaccinated,” Gifford says. “We urge residents to trust the science and join their family and friends who have already been vaccinated.”
