And the Award goes to…
Well, we don’t know who. But we can already applaud for The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (The Kate) in Old Saybrook. In a time when nonprofits are struggling, especially those in the arts, The Kate has earned a steady profit, its customer base is growing, and it has no continuing debt.
Consider how impressive that is amid a pandemic and with The Kate forced to shut down during the height of COVID.
As New Haven Biz reports, “For several years, “The Kate” — a performing arts center that operates on a $2 million budget and presents concerts, lectures and films in addition to hosting a new museum dedicated to the late actress — has produced operating surpluses, many in the six-figures range, that have provided long-term financial stability and allowed the nonprofit to reinvest in its operations and programming.”
The Kate also has much on its horizon. It recently opened the Katharine Hepburn Museum in its building and is working on “KateCom,” a conference dedicated to Kate Hepburn for fans across the globe.
Celebrating the Oscars
Looking for a fun way to watch the Oscars? The Kate will once again be offering custom boxes filled with gourmet treats from local businesses. You can order a box, which serves up to two people, through March 18, and pick it up at the Kate during the afternoon of March 27, the day of the Academy Awards.
Proceeds from the boxes, sponsorships, donations, and an online auction will support the Katharine Hepburn Museum. Cost per box is $100 ($26 is tax-deductible). Visit here for more details.
