A Museum Honoring a Connecticut Star

This month Connecticut Magazine features the new Katharine Hepburn museum.

Katharine Hepburn was an internationally acclaimed actress on stage, screen, and television. Her career began in the early ’30s and lasted more than 60 years, earning her four Oscars along the way. The museum is located at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center (known as “The Kate”) which is located in Old Saybrook Connecticut.

What’s in the museum? 

The museum gives an authentic view of Hepburn’s cultural and historical impact. Displays include personal letters, costumes, photographs, and memorabilia of the legendary Hartford-born actress who also made her home in Old Saybrook

As The Kate’s development and community relations director puts it, “The museum teaches history and she is a product of that history and that time.” 

Where is the museum? 

The new 1,200-square-foot museum is located on the main floor of The Kate which has been open since 2009. The center, which is a former town hall, also presents concerts, lectures, and films in its second- and third-floor hall.

How can I visit The Katharine Hepburn Museum?

The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center is located at 300 Main St., Old Saybrook.

The Museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and one hour prior to performances.
