Join tennis legend Martina Navratilova as she’s honored by The Kate for her extraordinary career that spanned four decades.
Navratilova will be recognized at The Kate’s 2022 Annual Gala for embodying the spirit of Katharine Hepburn by achieving greatness as a game-changer in her field. The ceremony is on August 27th and will take place at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook.
Navratilova won an unprecedented 59 Grand Slam titles, including a record nine Wimbledon singles championships, 167 singles championships, and 177 doubles championships. Her decades-long rivalry with Chris Evert is considered one of the greatest in sports history, with Navratiola edging a 43-37 advantage.
After Navratilova saw the film “The African Queen” as a young girl, Katharine Hepburn became her idol. Navratilova admired Hepburn’s strength and courage and was also impressed that she was a fine tennis player. The two women even ended up becoming good friends.
