Learn Online From the Experts at JAX

Broaden your knowledge and gain skills by learning from some of the world’s most elite scientists — all for free and on your own time.

The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) has developed a catalog of micro-lessons and mini-courses taught by the experts at JAX, an MCG client. The content is targeted towards graduate students, postdocs, research assistants, early career scientists, lab technicians, and those who simply want to be introduced to a variety of subjects.

For beginners, take a micro-lesson (15 minutes or less) and engage with subjects like introductory genetics and genomics. Micro-lessons were introduced earlier this year and new content is frequently added — so check back often.

Advanced students can enroll in mini-courses (a couple of hours) which are designed for in-depth learning about foundational topics. Participants who complete these courses are eligible to earn and share a JAX digital badge and certificate to advance their career. Digital badges can be used to add the verified accomplishments on LinkedIn or a resume/CV.

Examples of some of the subjects are:

  • Beyond Genes: Epigenetics, Environment, and Health

Gain a basic understanding of genetics versus epigenetics and learn about environmental causes and consequences of epigenetic changes in human and mouse model studies.

  • Mouse as a Model for Understanding Human Biology and Disease

Learn what makes the inbred mouse an ideal research model for understanding human biology and disease.

  • Mouse Genetic Diversity: Translating Discoveries to Humans

Find out how to leverage genetically diverse laboratory mice for translational research.
