Learn from experts about racial equity tools and the use of racial ethnic impact statements (REIS) in Connecticut at the upcoming “Advancing Racial Equity Symposium.”
REIS are a way for lawmakers to evaluate disparities of proposed laws before adoption and implementation. In 2018, Connecticut passed Public Act 18-78 and became the first state in the nation to require preparation of a REIS for any bill or amendment at the request of a legislator.
On September 8th at Goodwin College, a panel discussion will focus on how equity tools are being used in the state and nationwide.
Panelists include:
Subira Gordon, Executive Director at Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now
Steven Hernāndez, Esq, Executive Director at Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity
Senator Martin Looney, State Senate President Pro Tempore
Senator Gary Winfield, Chief Deputy Majority Leader
