Racial Equity Symposium Will Focus on Equity Tools

Learn from experts about racial equity tools and the use of racial ethnic impact statements (REIS) in Connecticut at the upcoming “Advancing Racial Equity Symposium.”

REIS are a way for lawmakers to evaluate disparities of proposed laws before adoption and implementation. In 2018, Connecticut passed Public Act 18-78 and became the first state in the nation to require preparation of a REIS for any bill or amendment at the request of a legislator.

On September 8th at Goodwin College, a panel discussion will focus on how equity tools are being used in the state and nationwide.

Panelists include:

  • Subira Gordon, Executive Director at Connecticut Coalition for Achievement Now

  • Steven Hernāndez, Esq, Executive Director at Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity

  • Senator Martin Looney, State Senate President Pro Tempore

  • Senator Gary Winfield, Chief Deputy Majority Leader
