MCG’s 2021 Look Back

Helping clients score victories is a hugely rewarding aspect of strategic communications. Here’s a look back at some of the work MCG is most proud of from 2021:

Rolling out a COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign

With lives on the line, Connecticut’s Department of Public Health implemented a massive education campaign promoting COVID-19 vaccination. MCG was proud to be a member of the team.

Our work required daily coordination with the CT DPH, the Office of the Governor, state agencies, and other key stakeholders such as Connecticut hospitals and municipalities. We developed messaging, interfaced daily with the Connecticut news media, organized events, built a social media campaign, and worked in coordination with other firms to educate, inform, and influence residents.

Connecticut is one of the leading states for vaccination rates, and MCG takes great pride in the role we played during this critical moment in history.

Standing up to Tesla’s anti-consumer legislation

Since 2013, MCG has worked with the Connecticut Automotive Retailers Association (CARA) opposing the adoption of “direct sale” legislation that would essentially void dealerships and many legal protections for consumers.

During the 2021 legislative session, the “Tesla bill” was introduced once again. MCG developed messaging, digital ads, testimony, member alerts, and various legislative documents in response to the pending bill. Our work also involved regular interaction with state reporters and editors on behalf of our client.

It all paid off, as the anti-consumer legislation did not advance at the state capitol.

Promoting a fundraiser for the House of Bread

The House of Bread has rarely, if ever, missed a meal. That’s critical to the community, because the House of Bread serves over 100 breakfasts and lunches daily (more than 2,500 meals a month) from its kitchen in Hartford. The House of Bread’s Kids’ Cafe also provides a hot dinner each school day to 250 Hartford school children through several different after school programs.

MCG was honored to help such a valuable member of the community by assisting the House of Bread with its November Hunger Banquet. As Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin said, "There is an incredible number of organizations that do great work in our city. Over the last couple of years, those organizations and everyone who've supported them have stepped up in unprecedented ways. And as a community, we're grateful for that, and we should celebrate it."

Raising awareness of mattress recycling in Connecticut

The Mattress Recycling Council’s Bye Bye Mattress program has become a major part of Connecticut’s environmental efforts. After just six years of the nation’s first statewide mattress recycling program, more than 1 million mattresses and box springs have been recycled in the state. The impact has been tangible — resulting in the diversion of more than 18,000 tons of steel, foam, fibers, and wood from landfill and incineration.

MCG helps to raise awareness of this crucial program, and we’re proud of the program’s continued success.

2021 was a rewarding year for MCG and we’re excited to see what 2022 brings.

Happy New Year!
