Emojis are Evolving and Presenting Opportunities

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how many is an emoji worth?

A lot, apparently. Emojis are becoming the vernacular of digital communication, according to Adobe’s annual Emoji Trend Report.

While emojis were viewed as unprofessional a decade ago, we’re at the point where using the right emoji, in the right context, can be valuable to communication professionals.

Here are a few highlights from the survey:

  • 68% surveyed say they like it when people use emojis at work. They also stated that it positively impacts likability (69%) and credibility (59%).

  • 88% reported they are more likely to feel empathetic toward someone if they use an emoji.

  • 71% of emoji users agree that inclusive emojis can help spark positive conversations about cultural and societal issues. However, 83% of people agree that emojis should still offer more representation.

  • 71% of Gen Z and 67% of Millennial emoji users are willing to purchase a product using an emoji.
