Minority communities are being disportionately devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic. One consequence is that many Black and Latinx students, who see higher education as a path to a more economically secure life, will now find it even more difficult to pay for college.
MCG client Dominion Energy recognizes the extra hurdles many of these students face and will be awarding $10 million in scholarships over six years to students who self-identify as: Black or African American; Hispanic or Latino; American Indian or Alaska Native; Asian; or Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander.

Why it matters
Underrepresented students have recently been entering higher education in historic numbers, but the financial setbacks and the challenges from Covid-19 may reverse any progress. With less minority students earning college degrees, disparities will only continue to widen.
This is a pivotal moment that could change the trajectory for families, communities, and the country for generations to come.
