Is social media helping or hurting society?
Not an easy question to answer, but it’s the topic of a May 26 event hosted by TALK, a Glastonbury-based, non-partisan organization. The 7 p.m. webinar will take an in-depth look at how social media is impacting our lives.
The event will feature Adam Chiara, an associate professor of communication at the University of Hartford, and Lon Seidman, a YouTube tech personality and host and CEO of Lon.TV. The spirited discussion, with ample time for audience questions, will focus on social media addiction, the spread of misinformation, and how to tackle the most pressing problems we face online.
The issues being covered are based on themes highlighted in the Netflix documentary, The Social Dilemma. The documentary-drama hybrid explores the dangerous human impact of social networking, with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations. An abbreviated version of the documentary will be shown to kick off the event.
Lon and Adam are both friends of MCG and are no strangers to media and politics in Connecticut. We’re looking forward to an enlightening evening with them. Register now to reserve your spot.
